Villa Vitalis

Where age knows no limits

Villa Vitalis

During the Month of Geriatric Medicine, we opened Villa Vitalis in Haarlem: a temporary age-up restaurant, run by vital older people.

You saw grandpas and grandmas squatting in the shopping street. Inside hung a photo exhibition about ageing by Arnoud Mooij. Restaurant Vork en Mes took care of the food. Doctor Kees and doctor Roeland gave sessions that stayed with you. The serving staff were older people moving with real pace. And there was a dance duet that brought the room to a hush.

Villa Vitalis turned prejudices about ageing on their head. Visitors discovered how much energy, humour and warmth there is in growing older. Together they struck up conversations about ageing vitally.

A temporary place, with a message that lasts: growing older isn't a decline, but a wonderful new phase of life.
