Catching dreams with tears and bursts of laughter
Cancer, the Musical
Not long ago we stood in a packed theatre. Popcorn in the air, a lump in the throat. A class of nine-year-olds from De Bosrank primary school waited in the wings. The reason was raw: their teacher René had died of cancer.
We didn't opt for sitting in silence, but for a musical. Thirty pupils sang for their parents. Janouk Kelderman spoke with specialists on stage. In the hall, together we filled an enormous dreamcatcher with hundreds of dreams.
On their way out, visitors saw those dreams projected large onto the façade, alongside three conversation tips for home. That way the conversation keeps going, long after the curtain has fallen.
