What is a narrative thread in an event?

A narrative thread is the connecting form that strings all the programme elements of your event together. Invitation, opening, speakers, activities, dinner, farewell. If those elements read as a story, you have a narrative thread.

A narrative thread isn't the same as a theme. A theme is the coat. A narrative thread is the narrative form: chronology, journey, question and answer, chapters or transformation.

You can have an event without a theme and still have a strong narrative thread. Without a narrative thread, every event falls apart into separate elements.
