What is the difference between inclusivity and diversity at events?

Diversity is about composition: are there people present with different backgrounds, ages, genders, nationalities and perspectives? Inclusivity is about experience: do all those people also really feel welcome and involved?

You can have a diverse group at an event that still doesn't feel inclusive. That happens when the programme is only recognisable to one group, or when the atmosphere is informally exclusionary. An inclusive event is designed so that everyone, regardless of background or disability, can fully participate and feels recognised. Diversity is the invitation; inclusivity is the experience.
