Not necessarily. Some sustainable choices cost more, others actually cost less or the same. A plant-based menu is often cheaper than a meat-based dinner. A venue that is easy to reach by public transport doesn't have to be more expensive than a remote one. Reusable tableware is cheaper in the long run than disposables.
Where sustainable events do sometimes cost more: certified green energy, quality sustainable décor, or a carbon offsetting programme. On average the additional cost for a fully sustainable event is 5-15% above a conventional event. That's an investment that pays for itself through a better reputation and appreciation from partners and stakeholders.
