The IDEA Pitchcode advises a maximum of three agencies per pitch. More agencies doesn't mean more choice. It means more agencies working for free on slim odds, and more irrelevant proposals for you.
Start with introductory meetings with four or five agencies. Then invite the three most suitable for the actual pitch. That way you can be sure every proposal is serious. A pitch with two agencies is also fine. Sometimes your shortlist is so clear that a third agency isn't needed.
