How big should an onboarding event be?

A group size of 10 to 40 people works best for onboarding events. Smaller than 10 misses the group dynamic that drives connection. Larger than 50 makes individual attention and personal connection harder. Where possible, mix different departments and seniority levels — diverse groups build an internal network faster than homogeneous ones.

If your organisation is onboarding large numbers of new staff at the same time, split into several groups rather than running one big session. Quality of connection beats efficiency of scale.
