What is the difference between crowd control and security at an event?

Security is about preventing unwanted situations: access control, incident management, protecting people and property. Crowd control is about directing the flow of people. It determines how guests move and where bottlenecks form. The two disciplines overlap in emergency scenarios, but they differ in substance. A security guard stands at the entrance. A crowd control coordinator thinks about the routing of 500 guests leaving the hall at the same time. At larger events, both roles are filled separately and work together from a single command point.
