What is the difference between trade fair participation and a brand activation?

Trade fair participation takes place at an organised trade fair where you rent a stand as an exhibitor. You share the space with other exhibitors and visitors come specifically for the fair. A brand activation is a stand-alone event that you shape entirely yourself, at a venue and moment of your choosing. At a trade fair you work within the trade fair organiser's framework: fixed build-up and break-down times, stand dimensions and house rules. With a brand activation you decide everything yourself. Both formats can generate leads and strengthen your brand, but the approach and reach differ substantially.
