What is the difference between a members' meeting and a members' conference?

A members' meeting is a formal decision-making moment. Members vote on the annual report, the budget, board elections and any amendments. This is a statutory obligation for every association.

A members' conference goes further. It is a fully fledged event with a substantive programme, speakers, workshops, networking moments and a festive element. The goal goes beyond governing. Members also come to meet each other and be inspired.

In practice, many large associations combine both: a short formal meeting is embedded in a broader conference. That way they comply with the articles of association and the event becomes a real day to count down to.
